Photography Assignment 7 (Black and White)

The goal of this assignment was to showcase images that lend themselves well to being portrayed in Black and White.

From this assignment I learned that Black and White can be a cool effect. I also learned that you have to get the balance right between being to light and too dark. Also, it is easy to make the photo look grainy so you have to make sure that you don't have a lot of digital noise.

Gimp Dictionary Assignment

In this assignment we had to take a word and create a picture using Gimp that shows the meaning of the word through the picture. It had to be creative and easy to tell how the pictures tie in with the word.


During this assignment I refreshed my memory on a lot of the Gimp tools, such as, the free selct and scale tools. I learned that making a picture like this takes a lot of time and creativity.

Photo Assignment 6

In this assignment I had to take a picture of a building and highlight the architectural features of the building and structure.

From this assignment I learned that when you change your angles and where you are standing when you take a picture of the building, it can change the whole picture. So just a little movement can make big changes and make the picture look a lot cooler.

Gimp School Context

In this assignment we had to take a picture of the school and add other things to it to change the context. We had to use the different tools in Gimp to make it look as realistic as possible.



From this assignment I learned that it can be difficult to change the context of a picture and that it really takes a lot of imagination.

Photo Assignment 5 (Macro)

In this assignment we had to use the Macro setting on the camera and take photos. The photos are supposed to reveal details not often seen.

From this assignment I learned that focusing and making sure the picture isn't blurry can be very difficult. But if you get it right then it had a cool effect on the photo.

Photography Assignment 4 (Light Painting)

In this assignment we had to take a light painting picture of an object framed in light. You had to take a photo in a dark room and use different lights to showcase the object.

During this assignment I learned that light painting is a lot more difficult than it looks. It is hard to get the right lighting and to get everything to look right. It is especially difficult, even impossible to get a good light painting picture with a moving object. I also learned that you need a thin light not a broad one.

Panoramic Gimp Assignment

In this assignment we had to take 3 separate photos of the same room and then stitch them together in one long photo. We had to use the different tools in gimp to change and modify the pictures so that they looked like they all matched.


From this assignment I learned how to use different tools in Gimp, such as, the perspective and eraser tool more effectively. I also learned that when taking panoramic pictures you should try to make sure they have as little lines as possible because that makes it a lot easier to make match up ans stitch together.

Photography Assignment 3 (Nature)

In this assignment I had to take a picture that says something about nature and the landscape we live in. Since we live in Michigan and it is snowy I tried to capture Michigan nature covered in snow.

 In this assignment I learned that using an overcast lighting is a lot more effective than using lighting when the sun is at it's highest and brightest. I also learned that there are a lot of cool things to take pictures of, you just have to be ready and willing to find and capture them in a picture.

Portrait Assignment

In this assignment we had to use natural lighting and studio lighting and take portraits. The pictures are supposed to convey the personality of the people in them.




In this assignment I learned that it can be hard getting the right lighting and amount of light in a picture, especially a portrait. I also learned that it is hard to get people to do something besides just smile so it can be hard to show their personality through the picture.

Photography Assignment 2 (Animal)

In this assignment I had to take pictures of an animal, in this case, my dog Tiko. We were supposed to showcase the personality of the animal in the picture.

In this assignment I learned that taking pictures of animals is quite a difficult task. I learned that you have to set the shutter speed pretty high because they will move at any moment. I also learned that as long as the picture is focused animals usually look good in pictures.

In this assignment we had to use a picture of a car and edit it to look better like the demo. We had to use Gimp and the different tools in Gimp to edit it.

In this assignment I learned how to use many different tools in Gimp, such as, the crop tool, the paintbrush tool, and many others. I also learned that by just using some simple editing tools you can really make a picture look a whole lot better.

In this assignment I had to take photos of inanimate objects. I had to arrange the objects in a certain way and then take photos of them.

In this assignment I learned that lighting makes a big difference on still life photos. I also learned that the way you set up object is really important to the overall pictures and that different angles can make whole new pictures.

Gimp Pop Art

In this assignment we had to use Gimp and create an image of the same picture in 4 different colors. We had to make a new image and copy the old one in there and make it 4 different colors.

During this assignment I learned how to get around Gimp and use different tools. I learned what layers and guides are and how to anchor a layer and also how to resize the canvas.

What I learned: I learned that there is more to taking pictures than just pointing and shooting. I also learned that having the subject in the middle of the photo isn't always the best place for it. I learned all the composition elements and how to apply them into a picture.
